Bike ride raises money for Twyford Centre

Niki George and bike

Niki and bike

In October Niki George completed a charity bike ride in Italy and raised £600 for the Centre. Niki was a volunteer at the Day Centre in 2009 for some 8 months, helping in the kitchen and driving the clients to and from the Centre. She loved the work and made some good friends so she stayed in touch, offering to help out whenever possible. She became interested in cycling in 2011 and when the chance came to cycle in Italy she decided to make the trip more worthwhile (and keep her pedals motivated!) by collecting sponsorship for the Centre.

Members knit blanket in aid of premature babies at RBH

In October, Wednesday Group members who have been knitting squares at the Centre and at home knitted enough to make up a blanket which was presented to Cathy Churchhouse, a midwife from The Royal Berkshire Hospital, to be sold at the hospital and raise funds for the premature baby unit. Knitting is very popular with many of the members and we now have enough squares to make up at least two more blankets. All this has happened thanks to Lynne Bush becoming a regular volunteer at the group and wishing to share her creative skills with others.

The Twyford Advertiser featured this event complete with picture.

It's only a mile long and was aimed at people of all levels of ability aged 4 years and over. It was a huge success and a great family day out was had by all. Carers' Open Day

On Saturday 23 June we held a very successful open day aimed at carers. Those attending were able to meet professional people who gave advice in a relaxed atmosphere over tea, coffee and home-made cakes!

People were able to find out what help is available from Wokingham Borough Council and other organisations and could learn about voluntary groups providing transport, meals, companionship and respite care.

Local providers of services such as physiotherapy, fitness training, hairdressing, chiropody, and stress counselling were also present.
